Good morning, my friends!

Let's start with some of the last photographs I have received. There is a lot of art at Pasamonte school :)

I hope you are OK. Let's do some English and some space activities today. If you have your books with you, I am going to ask you to go to PB 88 and read that interesting text about being an astronaut.

But before you read it, there are some things I'd like to explain. Have a look at the next sentence: 

You have to go to university to be an astronaut. 

In this sentence, have got means tienes que. Ese verbo lo empleamos también para hablar de nuestras posesiones, de cosas que tenemos, como en el siguiente ejemplo: 

Ramón has big muscles.

Pero en este texto de los astronautas, vamos a encontrar ese otro significado (que es lo que habéis ido trabajando en las frases de los días anteriores). Ese significado es tener que hacer algo, como en estos otros ejemplos: 

To be a teacher you have to go to university (o al revés, you have to go to university to be a teacher). 

You have to work very hard to be an astronaut.

You have to buy some ingredients to make a cake. 

Si os dais cuenta, después del verbo (HAVE TO) aparece otro verbo (GO, WORK, BUY). Ese segundo verbo es lo que tenéis que hacer para ser profe, ser un astronauta o hacer una tarta. 

After this, have a look at the text below (sé que no queda bonito tan grande, pero os lo pongo así porque algún compañero no tiene el libro).

1. After reading the text and listening to it, try to complete the sentences about the text... (AB 85:1).

2. We can do something similar with other jobs or activities (vais a tener que completar la primera o la segunda parte de la frase. Mirad los ejemplos antes de hacerlo): 

EXAMPLES:

To pass a Science test you have to study very hard.

SENTENCES:

- To be a tennis player you have to...

3. You know the International Space Station is orbiting our planet. If you click on the link below you can see where it is right know (podéis ver los grados como estudiamos en Sociales; recordad: latitude and longitude. Ahora mismo, mientras os preparo esta actividad, dice que está en la posición 31ºS 78ºE... a ver dónde está en el momento en que lo hacéis). Click and write its position.

4. The astronaut from the text, Nicole Stott, spent 91 days on the International Space Station. I have found a video that shows the inside of the station. I thought you may like it.

2. Let's talk about jobs a bit more. Try to do the next activity (AB page 83:2).

It is Friday. Some people say it is the best day of the week. I prefer Thursdays, but Fridays are fine too.

Today we have some English work to do. But first things first: let's start with another song (don't worry, it is not another rap, this is a very cool song).

2. Let's continue with our PB unit 8. Go to pages 84-85 and read the episode (if you can listen to it, do it).  Para los que no tienen el libro, os pongo aquí el diálogo. No se ve muy bien, pero creo que sí se pueden leer los textos (si alguien tiene algún problema para verlo bien, podéis mandarme un correo y buscamos un remedio). 

After reading the episode. Answer the next questions (no tenéis que copiar las preguntas, pero sí necesito respuestas más largas que yes/no. Ejemplo: yes, she is; she is a vet...).

I hope you are OK. It is Wednesday and today we have to do a bit of English. Are you ready?

Some days ago we talked about jobs. That was the first page of a new unit in English, Unit 8. 

Have a look at the next dialogue between Josh and Lily (PB page 83).

Josh: What do you want to be when you’re older, Lily? 

Lily: I want to be a vet. 

Josh: Do you have to go to university to be a vet? 

Lily: Yes, you do. You have to like animals, too. 

Josh: I want to be a carpenter when I’m older. 

Lily: Why? 

Josh: Because you don’t have to wear a uniform. 

Lily: Of course! You love wearing jeans.

1. Try to complete this dialogue with similar sentences...

Peter: What do you want to be when you’re older, Mary? 

Mary: I want to be a mechanic. 

Peter: Do you have to _____________ to be a mechanic? 

Mary: Yes, you do. You have to ___________, too.

In this new unit (Unit 8) we are talking about jobs. 

1. Could you write the four jobs that appear in the song?

2. I want you to do the next vocabulary worksheet. It is not interactive, but you don't have to copy the activities, you can just write the answers on a piece of paper. 

3. Uno de los nuevos contenidos que vamos a aprender en esta unidad es a decir algunas de las cosas que necesitas en algunas de las profesiones. 

Examples: 

• I want to be a police officer... Do I have to wear a uniform? (¿tengo que llevar uniforme?) Yes, you do. 
• Mary wants to be a doctor... Does she have to go to university? (¿tiene que ir a la universidad?). Yes, she does.

With that information, try to guess the jobs I am talking about... Sometimes there is more than one correct answer.

As I told you last week, we are going to start English UNIT 8 (Jobs we do).

Your PB page 82 shows the new words we are going to learn. There are twelve jobs to learn in this unit (from chef to vet)

1. In the song there are some questions about jobs. Try to answer these other questions too (very easy):

• Who drives a bus or a taxi?
• Who fixes cars and motorbikes?
• Who makes chairs and tables with wood?
• Who paints beautiful paintings?
• Who looks after your teeth?

2. You have some activities to go over those words in your AB, page 80.

3. In the link below there is a wordsearch. Give it a try.
